RULES

The world of Whitesands has a basic set of rules, most are simple common sense and courtesy. These rules must be followed to ensure an enjoyable gaming experience for all players.

1. MULTIS

We ask that use of multiple characters (multis) be limited to no more than five (5) characters online at any one time. This includes characters which are link dead. You may have multiple characters in the player database however, at any point in time you may have *at most* five of your characters connected to the mud. This rule will be strictly enforced, no excuses.

2. SHARING

Sharing of characters is discouraged. To prevent stolen characters, lost equipment and disappearing money, please refrain from allowing *anyone* to have your character password. If you loan your character to a friend, and they violate rules, it will be *your* character who will suffer the consequence, jail time or possible deletion. Play it safe. Keep your characters to yourself.

3. CLAIMING

You may not 'mob sit' or stake a claim on a particular mob (monster) by waiting in a room for it to repeatedly reset. The first player to attack a mob gets to kill it. You may not attack a mob someone else is fighting without their permission. You may not cast *any* spells on a mob that someone is fighting without their consent. If a player permits you to cast helpful or healing spells on them during a battle, this does not include you in the fight. The person who started the fight gets the loot. Do not expect to gain equipment from a battle that you were not invited
to join.

4. CHARMING

Do not bring any charmed mobs into the Port of Whitesands. You may not attack other players charmed mobs or pets. You are expected to destroy charmed mobs after their charm runs and you not longer wish to use them.

5. STORAGE

No storage characters will be permitted. A 'storage character' can be defined as a character whose *sole purpose* is to store/hold extra equipment to hoard, sell, or trade at a later time. These characters will be deleted without warning. No excuses.

6. SUMMON & NEXUS PORTALS

You may not summon a player without their explicit permission. You may not summon any mob to any portion of the Port of Whitesands area. If you summon a mob from its proper zone, you are expected to destroy it. For the safety of low level players, you may not create nexus portals inside the Port of Whitesands or the Adventurers' Academy. Please create your nexus outside of the Port and Academy.

7. SHOPKEEPERS

It is illegal to attack any shopkeeper or guildmaster in the Port of Whitesands; this includes attempts to steal, sleep, charm or otherwise harm with a skill or spell. If you are unsure if the mob is a shopkeeper, type 'list' in its room. If you are given a list of items to purchase, it is a shopkeeper.

8. CHANNELS

You may not spam, harass, or use profanity on any public channels. A public channel can be defined as any channel seen by those other than yourself and the person to whom you are speaking. If you are using profanity in a private conversation and the other party asks you to stop, please respect their wishes. Spam can be defined as repeatedly asking the same question or statement over and over.

9. SECRETS

The area creators have put quite a bit of effort into making zones that are fun and challenging to players. We ask that you be considerate to these creators and not publically reveal puzzles, secret items or hidden locations. This means, don't shout this information, don't reveal it over chat channels, and don't post it.

10. PROBLEMS

We expect players to handle problems caused in the mortal world. If a situation can't be resolved peacefully, please contact an immortal.Type 'who immortal' for a list of immortals currently online.

11. VIOLATIONS

Violations of any of these rules can result in a gentle warning, jailing of your character(s) or immediate and permanent removal from the game. It is best to just follow the rules and enjoy the game. In doing so, your enjoyment of the game should not detract from others' enjoyment.

12. REIMBURSEMENTS

Whitesands currently has a policy of 'no reimbursements'. In general we cannot prove whether you had the item you claim you did or not. So the only objective solution is to not reimburse anything. We apologize.

13. REQUESTS

All of the immortals are here voluntarily, as are you, the players. Please keep this in mind when making requests of them. If you do not get a response directly, they are usually not ignoring you, but are likely hard at work on other aspects of the game. We appreciate your patience in such matters.

If you have a question about any other situations that might arrive, please post a note on a board or send private mail to an implementor.
